Remember how last block I was talking about keeping the faith and putting down the seam ripper? This is what that looks like for me.
When I was laying out my blocks, I noticed that I had touches of this soft pink in there but not enough. When I do a sampler quilt, I want to have a variety to the color saturation to create movement and keep it from being one-note. The soft pink balances out the darkness of the grape purple and charcoal parts. But now with the other blocks, it feels like it sticks out. And that’s ok! We’re only a quarter of the way through. I keep reminding myself that I’m not going to hit every color every time. I’m keeping an eye on the overall look and it will keep coming together.
You know I like to make my half square triangles a particular way. It’s oversizing and squaring up for me, every time! To make the half square triangles for this block:
- Cut (1) colorful square at 3.25″ and (1) background square at 3.25″
- Put right sides together and lightly draw a line on the wrong side of the lighter square
- Stitch a ¼” seam on both sides of the line you drew
- Cut on the line, press half square triangles open
- Trim and square up half square triangle units to 2.75″
This block is soft and pretty, and the fabric mix with our shimmery moons from Oracle and the peachy pink from Giucy Giuce really works well together. More blocks to come!
