I know I know, I’ve been on an orange kick. But this block isn’t all orange, so it doesn’t count. Made and Found Block 16 is here!
After laying out my blocks, I decided I needed to have more that combined color families. Tonal blocks are pretty, but I’m not going for a gradient or rainbow effect on my quilt, so I have more freedom to create different combinations. The aqua and orange combo was inspired by the cloud print I used in Block 10. No other fabrics with that color combination spring to mind, and I didn’t want it to stick out as a loner in my sampler. But I have a little bit of fabric, so I can make a supporting block with a similar color scheme.
I’m still going to oversize and square up my half square triangles! If you want to make them my way:
- Cut (1) colorful square at 3.25″ and (1) background square at 3.25″
- Put right sides together and lightly draw a line on the wrong side of the lighter square
- Stitch a ¼” seam on both sides of the line you drew
- Cut on the line, press half square triangles open
- Trim and square up half square triangle units to 2.75″
We’re getting close to halfway through (that is halfway through not counting bonus blocks). How’s your Made and Found shaping up?
