Confession that’s not really a confession and you should probably know this already; I really really like teal. When we do quilt patterns and fabric we always have to stop, drop, and check the teal-aqua-turquoise content so we don’t become one-note. But then we overcorrect and there’s not enough turquoise! So for this Made and Found block, I wanted to bring the turquoise back in.

When I made Block 9 with the soft pink, it sort of fell out of the group of sampler blocks I’d already put together. But when I had the soft pink in my stack for the original fabric pull, I really liked it! So why wasn’t it working with the rest? It needed a friend. And friends aren’t carbon copies of each other, they’re different. So the friend to the soft pink block is a soft turquoise block. I kept it to one fabric, the fun cloud print in Clear Skies from Astrologika. It’s got touches of creamy orange and cream to break it up. And I really like it!

I’m still making my half square triangles two-at-a-time instead of eight-at-a-time! Here are my quick little notes to make your half square triangles my way:

  • Cut (1) colorful square at 3.25″ and (1) background square at 3.25″
  • Put right sides together and lightly draw a line on the wrong side of the lighter square
  • Stitch a ¼” seam on both sides of the line you drew
  • Cut on the line, press half square triangles open
  • Trim and square up half square triangle units to 2.75″

Honestly, this cloud print is one of my favorites and just makes me happy. Clear skies for everyone!
