I’m currently writing this from my hotel room in New Orleans.
There’s no beignet in my hand, and my blocks are powdered sugar free, but I can’t help but think that this block looks like the wheels of the paddleboats going down the river.
Or you know, the giant illegal fireworks they set off last night. New Orleans is fun. Everyone should visit. But back to our Made and Found Block 7!
Block 7 of Made and Found is a half square triangle heavy block, and it uses a method I haven’t tried before; you use two large squares and you end up making eight half square triangles at a time. It’s pretty nifty, but if I were to make this block again I’d go back to my usual slightly oversized half square triangles and trimming them down. It’s hands down my favorite method for accuracy. I like my points to be pointy and my intersections to be crisp!
This is another block where the colors in the block don’t match the swatch dots I have on the side perfectly. Last week, the teal was more saturated. This week my purple isn’t as warm. The reason why I still put it in there, other than its cool fabric and I wanted to, was because it was a similar value and depth of color. It still works.
So don’t feel like you have to match every fabric perfectly. Especially for a sampler quilt, fabric variation will keep it from becoming flat. You can do it! Shake up those colors!
