Back in Block 6, we used a really pretty saturated green from Libs Elliott for the star points. So far it’s the only place where we’ve used that color in that saturation, so I wanted to bring it back in. Which also means it’s time for another teal block! Yay shades of cutting mats!
I keep mixing up the color theory strategy for each block. I’ve done complementary color schemes, one fabric with low contrast, but for this block I kept it monochromatic. It’s all teal/blue-green but I varied the shades with a saturated center and a paler print for the outer half square triangles. The darker teal print from Gemma has the black in between the color which I thought was a way to pull in some of the depth from the charcoal in other blocks.
This is a half square triangle bonanza. Here’s the Cliff notes version of the measurements steps I use:
- Cut (1) colorful square at 3.25″ and (1) background square at 3.25″
- Put right sides together and lightly draw a line on the wrong side of the lighter square
- Stitch a ¼” seam on both sides of the line you drew
- Cut on the line, press half square triangles open
- Trim and square up half square triangle units to 2.75″
And you know what I just realized? Twelve blocks through means we’re a third of the way there! Go go go! Sew sew sew!
